Peace on Earth Starts With Us!: Living the Angel's Message Today

The birth of Christ is one of the most celebrated events in human history, marked by an extraordinary moment when angels filled the night sky, proclaiming, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:14). These heavenly beings, with their message of peace and hope, directed the shepherds to the Savior. Their proclamation wasn’t just an announcement—it was a call to action, a beacon that led those humble shepherds to find Jesus in the most unlikely of places: a manger.#

Today, as followers of Christ, we are called to be the modern-day equivalent of those angels, leading others to Jesus not through grand proclamations, but by the way we live our lives and treat those around us. Like the star that guided the wise men from afar, we are called to shine brightly, offering direction and hope to a world searching for truth, love, and grace. Our actions, our words, and the way we handle interactions with others serve as the light that points to Jesus.

In a society that is often divided by differences in beliefs, values, and opinions, it is easy to fall into the trap of letting disagreements define our relationships. However, the message of the angels at Christ’s birth reminds us of a higher calling: to extend peace and goodwill to all people. This doesn’t mean compromising our beliefs, but it does mean embodying the agape love of Christ in every interaction—even with those who may see the world differently than we do.

Jesus’ earthly ministry was filled with encounters where He demonstrated love and compassion to people from all walks of life. He dined with tax collectors, healed the sick, touched lepers, and forgave sinners. His love was radical and inclusive, crossing cultural, social, and religious boundaries. He didn’t merely tolerate those who were different; He engaged with them, listened to them, and cared for them. As His followers, we are called to do the same.

Each day, we encounter opportunities to be the star that leads others to Jesus. It might be through a kind word to a coworker, a generous act for a neighbor, or a moment of patience with someone who challenges us. It might be as simple as listening without judgment or offering forgiveness when it’s hard. These acts, though seemingly small, shine brightly in a world often clouded by negativity and division. They reflect the light of Christ, drawing others to Him.

Being a beacon for Christ is not about perfection; it’s about authenticity. When we admit our shortcomings, seek forgiveness, and strive to live in love, we demonstrate the transformative power of Jesus. People are drawn to genuine faith, especially when it is lived out in everyday moments. Our lives become a testimony that speaks louder than words ever could.

This Christmas season, as we reflect on the angels who sang at Jesus’ birth, let us take their message to heart. Let us commit to being stars that lead to Jesus, shining His light through acts of love, kindness, and compassion. In doing so, we fulfill our role in God’s story, pointing others to the hope, peace, and joy found only in Christ.
